Sly 4: Thieves in Time Demo Review

Sly: Cooper Thieves in Time

On the 22nd of January, those who were a PlayStation Plus Member was able to download the Sly Cooper Thieves in Time demo before the public release on the 29th. I was a PS+ member and I jumped at the chance to download it once I read over the internet. Though I didn't really play the first three games (I missed it because I didn't own a PS2 back then, which to me is sad since the PS2 era just ended), after watching my favourite playthougher Vash12349 on youtube playing the first two games in the series, I immediately got hooked into it. But let's get to the point of this little blog, my thoughts on the demo.

Review:

The story in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, set in a world populated by anthropomorphic animals, follows from the end of Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves. Sly Cooper, a raccoon from a long line of master thieves, will need to reunite with his gang to locate and recover the Thievius Raccoonus, a book chronicling the Cooper family line that has been lost within time. The player controls Sly, Bentley, Murray, Carmelita Fox, and Sly's ancestors, using their skills to pull off heists and reveal who has tampered with the Cooper history.

From left to right: Bently, Sly Cooper, and Murray

The demo puts you right into the first mission, controlling three of the main characters with Sly being the first to control. Now if you played the other Sly Cooper games previous, the controls are obviously very similar and easy to get use too. You have your standard (X) for jump (tap it twice to achieve double jump), (O) to interact with key points, pickpocket loot from enemies or to land/grab onto ledges or tips, ([  ]) for attack, and so forth. What I find that is really neat is how the characters break the forth wall to explain the controls for you.

You go through the first section of the mission to get comfortable with the controls as Bently (the genius turtle) helps you navigate the area. Sly of course with his slick movements and nice animation for his jumps and twirls, is as cool as ever. Holding the Triangle allows you to charge his cane for a spin attack, or pressing triangle and then ([  ]) will have Sly preform the sneak attack. Afterwards, while looking around I found before the end of Sly's segment, I found the Sly Mask icon laying around. I assume this is another collectible in the game other then just the bottles seen in the previous, thought I didn't see any bottles as I played as it shows you how much and many collectibles are left when you pick them up on the right-hand side of the screen.

For Bently's section of the game was a surprise for me. For those who remember playing as Bently in the previous titles, he was a slow turtle with a cross-bow to put enemies to sleep (the just of it). Now he is on a high-tech wheelchair capable of flight, throwing bombs, speed (hahaha), and other stuff that is probably in the full release. Afterwards, you would also get to play the mini-game, Hacking (I think that's the name). You control this little digital turtle and shoot firewalls, obtain fragment keys, break through even stronger firewalls with a digital tank, etc. After the mini-game you then play Murray, which is pretty straightforward. Murray is the strongest of the bunch as he can preform body slams, throw enemies and objects, a spin attack similar to Sly's etc. Though we don't get to see it in the demo, the safe house returns in the game. This is where you are able to sell loot, select which characters to play if available, look around the room and other neat stuff.

The Safe House, which you can see one of Sly's ancestors on the far right.

The aesthetic of game is visually appealing and I really enjoy the new look. Sanzaru Games did a really good job with the HD remaster of the previous titles, and you can tell they had an upgrade from it in Sly Thieves in Time. Three of the original actors for the Sly gang return in the game, thought Murray does sound unpleasant sometimes. They also kept the comic like cut-scenes that tells the story in the game and they are really fun to watch. Sly fans who enjoy the music in the previous titles will like the fact that some of the music is still used. Some might have a little differences but nonetheless it sounds amazing and catchy. I had a nice time just running in circles just listening to the background music.

Overall:

I found the demo seamlessly pleasing for me. From the gameplay, to visuals or the sounds being received by my ears. I really enjoy the quirky lines from Sly and remarks from Bently. It was nice to get a little peak into the game before it's official release and now I am happy that I pre-ordered it. I believe that Sly fans and new ones will enjoy it when the public release comes out on teh 29th of January, unless your PS+ member then I would say download it now and give it a try!~

This game will also be a part of the "Cross Buy" initiative announced by Sony. This will allow purchasers of the PlayStation 3 version of the game to receive a free copy of the game on the PlayStation Vita added to a PlayStation Network account. Sly Cooper Thieves in Time will be released in North America on February 5th  (Tuesday), and in Europe on March 27th (Wednesday).

Hope this little unorganized review help with your thoughts about the game. I will post a video of the demo in the future.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Over the past two weeks, I've been playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown on the PS3 like crazy. When I was a child, I loved tactical strategies games. Fire Emblem (GBA, Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn or whatever), Final Fantasy Tactics (all variants), Tactics Ogre, Suikoden Tactics, you name it.

In XCOM, you are a commander of a project called The XCOM Project (yeah, that's right). You will lead a small unit of 4 (base) to 6 soldiers to take on various mission throughout the game. These missions include abduction, terror mission, UFO Crash/Landing sites, VIP Escort, deactivating a bomb, and others. Soldiers are promoted or "level up" as they kill a certain amount of enemies. Once promoted, you can select a 1 ability out of 2 of the rank you unlock. Each soldier you command are categorized into 4 classes. The four classes are Assault (front-line soldiers), Support (Various duties based upon situation), Heavy (Offensive class), and a Sniper (self explanatory). By balancing which classes to bring for certain types of alien encounters can highly effect the outcome of your mission.

It is important to note that certain missions also affect countries likely-hood of leaving the XCOM project. This is shown once you are in HQ and going into the Situation Room. Certain missions such as abduction for example provides three different sites to save, which each place offering different rewards (money, soldiers, engineers or researchers). Now here is the catch. You can only choose ONE of the three sites. In doing so, the ONE you choose will have a reduce of panic while the other two sites you didn't choose will have a rise in panic. Tough choices to make, with varying consequences.

All activities other then mission are at HQ. In the HQ hub, you can buy or build weapons, ships, armour at the Engineering Lab. You can research specific items for additional bonuses, weapons, armour, or aircraft at the Research Lab but some require a certain amount of days to past. Barracks is where you can view all your soldiers, change their equipment, customize their appearance or hire new ones. There is also this antfarm like structure where you can build facilities that either create more power, allow more satellites to launch or reduce the amount of days to research things.

I've been on a massive rage about this game as it brought back old memories. The best part is that the games is very unfriendly on Impossible Mode (the highest/toughest difficulty). It can be very punishing if you don't know how to take on certain missions without a based knowledge of what is coming up.

Overall, I love this game. From it's cool art style, to all the death of my squad-mates (you get attached to them... trust me) to considering long-term rewards to short-term rewards. XCOM keeps you on your feet as you struggle to balance all of it's component as you save the world.

Life Update 1.02

Bah, I should be doing my homework that is due tomorrow... hahaha, but I'm writing this entry so...
Currently, today (December 4th) was my last day at my placement for my 1st semester. I'm going to miss the children there dearly. Will always remember them and hoping that they don't forget me too quickly haha.
They also made me a small book with all their hand prints which I thought was the cutest thing ever, and I balled (yes, I cried my ass off, I really enjoy where I work. shows commitment).

Here it is, I will always keep it.

2nd Semester starts in January, so I believe I will have time to actually write on my blog site. (Kinda need a better hobby and avoid feeding my gaming addiction).

On the topic of gaming addiction. I believe I am addicted to video games. As in I "have" the need to get every game and I do sometimes (not at full price). I able to restrain myself from buying like 10 brand new games and spread them out. I just have so many games that I'm unable to beat them all. Its horrible, I know.
But I can deal with it, I know I should not let get out of control. Plus I have my girlfriend and my extremely close buddy who care for my health and watch over me. (love you guys if you are reading this.)

Well, that is it for this partial update. See you guys later.

Life Update 1.0

My Life Update

Me with P4G:SGPE

Intro

So it's been awhile since I lasted used this blog. I guess this calls for a life update of where I currently am at this time. I should really start using this more, it could develop into a better hobby than playing games 24/7. Haha, nah I'm just kidding. I go to school too.

Social

Currently working at West River Banquet hall as a server. Working minimum wage, 1 day a week, which doesn't really provide anything for me. Planning on working at Boston Pizza or EBGames. I had an interview with EBGames already so I'm waiting for an update at the moment. Still with my girlfriend, been 4 years now on the 7th of November. Still living in the same area.

Education

I graduated High School this year in the month of June. I am currently enroll at Seneca College for Early Childhood Education (in short ECE). Its a program where I learn how to properly assist children with their development at a different milestones. This includes infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers and school-age children. I've have always enjoyed working with children and I feel that I was born in this life to contribute to the best of my abilities to help children with their learning. The program is a 2 year course, and so far for first semester, I'm really loving it. I learnt many new things and still will learn many new things that I could use to incorporate once I become and ECE (though I use them on my little bro as practice). I also plan on attending Teacher's College to become a full-fledged teacher. College is going great, lots of work, little sleep and great colleges.

Video Games

Mark's Drawer of Games. (This isn't half of it.)

In gaming related news, I got myself a PS3 and a PSVITA, which have been my goal for years to obtain and now I have them. As you can see in the picture above, my small collection of PS3 games so far and a shit ton of X360 games. Right now, I'm in admits of building my collection for the PS3 and the VITA. I already have a few games in mind to get once I have the money but if you can suggest me a game to get, that would be appreciated. =) I got a 250G PS3 with 2 controllers for $230 from Kijiji, which in my opinion was a GREAT DEAL! Haha, and I got the White VITA that I've been waiting for ages (not really) to come here in North America. So here are a few photos that sum VERY little of what is going on with my gaming life.

So here is my 250G PS3, with a decal I got from DecalGirl.com
Loving it every time I boot this sexy baby up to play XCOM, Dishonored, or BL2

The beauty of all Portable Gaming Devices.
The White PSVITA! I LOVE THIS!

Imported this baby from Japan from eBay!

Borderlands 2 with the Collector's Edition of the Guide.

Well, that is all for now. I will provide another update if needed. Thanks for reading!

Persona 4 Golden: Solid Gold Premium Edition

PERSONA 4 GOLDEN: SOLID GOLD PREMIUM EDITION UN-BOXING

So two days ago, I went into Purolator to pick up 1 of the only 10,000 ever going to be made of Persona 4 for the VITA. I just want to run through some of the contents that come in the box (if you haven't seen it yet.) Shall we begin?

Persona 4 Carrying Case
So first off we have the limited persona 4 carrying case. Now in the picture it would seem pretty compact and small. Its actually pretty big (but still portable) than it looks on a computer screen. It has a felted inner coat and a small flap that covers the screen. You can also carry three VITA games on the flap. Now what was also inside was the Persona 4 Face Cover for the VITA. I forgot to take a picture but basically what it's called. A face cover. If covers around the VITA and the front. The back of it is exposed so you can use it when you lift the front off.

I'm happy it came with the case and not just the game card.
Next up is just the game itself.
Comes with the case and the game card inside.
For people like me who actually wants a game with its case, then feel happy if you got the Solid Gold Edition. To me personally it feels like I have a complete game.

PERSONA 4 VITA SKIN!
The Solid Gold Edition also comes with a VITA skin for the front.
Now in the picture it is shown that I have two. For this reason, it was because I pre-ordered it online and as a promotion for pre-ordering Persona 4 Golden, you get the skin for free. :)

Persona 4 Sticker Set

Now the last thing that comes with the Solid Gold Edition is the sticker set.
Nothing really fancy but they are really nice to have and look at. =D

Well that is it for the un-boxing of Persona 4 Golden: Solid Gold Premium Edition.
I might do a review later, but that might take some time. Haha, but for those who played Persona 4 on the PS2, would enjoy it again on the PSVITA with all it's new content.

Seitokai Yakuindomo

The main cast. From Left to Right, Takatoshi Tsuda,
Shino Amakusa, Aria Shichijou, Suzu Hagimura
SEITOKAI YAKUINDOMO
Genre: Comedy, School Life, Ecchi, Slice of Life, Shounen.
Themes: Dark jokes, perverted jokes & innuendos, perverted girls & school life.

http://www.watchanimeon.com/anime/seitokai-yakuindomo/

Seitokai Yakuindomo aired in Japan on July 4th, 2010 to September 26th, 2010. I was with visiting my dad during the summer which I do every year, and I usually watch anime, play videos, watch T.V, play with my little sister or play video games. All the stuff that makes you forget about all that hard work of studying go down the drain like no tomorrow. SO while I was scrolling through a bunch of anime, I happen to spot this one. It had just come out recently (mostly likely like I saw it after 4-5 days, which is enough to see it get subbed), and I love the style of the artwork for the cover, so I was like "Hey, this looks like a decent anime, might as well check it out." and I did. I shit you not, I L-O-V-E this anime every since that day. I have watched it over and over again, and laughed at every single moment like a girl. Of all the comedy anime I have watched, this cracked me up like crazy, of all it's dirty sex jokes to sexual innuendos. Okay, let just to the just of the story in the anime.

Takatoshi Tsuda
Takatoshi Tsuda is a male lead in the anime, where he had just applied and enter into Osai Academy, which is school that has been gender-integrated to a co-ed that until been recently a all-girls school. Tsuda picked Osai because it was an easy walking distance and he just wanted to live normally, but he has been forced to join the Osai Academy Student Counsel as a male representative. Tsuda often acts as the anime's tsukkomi or boke routine, where someone makes an outrageous statement and the voice of reason butts in with a quirky retort, a frustrated exclamation or a sensible lament. Tsuda is one of the leveled character in the anime, and it provides the most of the comedy with his dry sensed humor and off-the-cuff remarks that goes well with the dirty comments that are said in the anime.

Shino Amakusa

He is joined by 3 fellow Student Council members, first being the President, Shino Amakusa (who I LOVE so much), who is a serious and diligent, talented in most of her class (especially Health Class), and loved among many students. However, she is always thinking about perverted thoughts and only interested with Tsuda for her curiosity of not much information about males in health class.

Aria Shichijou
The second character to follow Shino is Aria Shichijou (who is HOT), the student council's secretary, and Shino's best friend. She is almost exactly like Shino, as she is also thinking of perverted thoughts and has a hig interest in bondage and anal play... (eww). Aria is also airhead and often gets lost in her thoughts. Aria comes from a rich family and is mature in appearance.

Suzu Hagimura
Lastly and not the least, my favourite character of them all! Suzu Hagimura! Suzu is the student council's treasurer, and is the smallest out of all the cast members, which leads to her Napoleon Complex. Suzu is the most mature character, and is a super genius with an IQ of 180, and is often mistaken for an elementary school student. If mock about her height or anything that would be related about being tall or short, she would rage about it.

There are also many other minor characters, but they also have their own quirks, but adds even more humor to the show. It is an awesome anime if you are looking to past time and really want a couple of laughs if you get most of the jokes they use in here. I would recommend you guys to watch this funny anime, you would get a blast out of it. Here the opening to the anime if you guys want to see whats it like. :D

There are a total of 13 episodes, plus the OVA which is the sequel or continuation of the anime, though I don't know how long it will go. So far there is 2 OVA episodes. I love this anime to it's full extent and I hope you guys will enjoy it as well. Here is a website you can use to watch the episodes: http://www.watchanimeon.com/anime/seitokai-yakuindomo/

Here are a couple of more pics for you guys.

The Hunger Games Trilogy

The First Book in the Trilogy.

The Hunger Games

Hey guys, so yeah I know I'm like late by 3 years but what can I say? I love reading books but when you have a very busy house, with 2 brothers, 17 and almost graduating high school, looking at Colleges/Unies... You tend to do things a little bit late I suppose, anyways I digress. The point is, I want to talk this book that everyone was so hyped about and with a movie adaption coming along with it, everyone must read the book first, or for others the other way around. I've started reading this book right after I got the Trilogy Edition from my wifey, and I love it. Let get to the setting and the main points of the story.
Note: IT IS SPOILER FREE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!

The story is set in a fictional version of North America, in a nation called Panem. Panem is governed by the Capitol, which rules the surrounding twelve district around it. The Capitol is known to be harsh and cruel by forcing each of the twelve districts to send one girl and one boy who are the ages between twelve to eighteen to the Capitol to participate in an annual event called the Hunger Games. During the Hunger Games, each of the two contestants from their district are forced to fight to the death, leaving only one victor to claim their prize and luxury for their district. The story follows a young sixteen year old girl named Katniss Everdeen, who lives with her mother and her younger sister. Katniss has voluntarily took the place of her younger sister in the Games to protect her has much as she can. Survival is second nature for Katniss, but she must also weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

My Thoughts

This book is really amazing, as it really touches your thoughts about what we have today, in our society and how grateful that we live in a nation that cares for our citizens. We have Human Rights that have been created to protect the rights of many people around the world. This story strips that away from the citizen of Panem, as they have to fend for themselves, taking risk to find food, trading items for necessities or food, living in a poor community with a harsh environment and not depend on the government. It makes me wonder, if any of the other countries in the book have notice with Panem what they were doing. Having the thought of watching children who are not fully developed into adults, die right in front of me for entertainment is sick, but their are people are like that out there, and that is how this books captures us in. It creates an environment that everyone (or mostly everyone) detest today. It just wrong to have to go through that, or even seeing your own blood to have to suffer the Games. I would recommend anyone reading this to go pick up a copy of this book, or more, the whole trilogy.

Final Fantasy Type-0 Review (JAPAN)

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Type-0

FINAL FANTASY TYPE-O

Final Fantasy Type-0 is an action role-playing game from Square Enix, along with Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which makes up the Fabula Nova Crytallis: Final Fantasy. The game comes in 2 UMDs, due to high space issues.
The name of Final Fantasy Type-0 was changed, the original being Final Fantasy Agito XIII.

STORY
9/10

Since I can barely read Japanese, I can't really give any detailed points. So I'll give the basics.
Final Fantasy Type-0 takes place in Oriense, which is divided by four nations known as Suzaku Fiefdom of Rubrum, the Milites Empire, the Lorican Alliance, and the Kingdom of Concordia. Each of the nations contain their unique crystals, which is famous in the Final Fantasy series. Suzaku Crystal grants the power of Magic, Byakko Crystal grants the power of Weapons (meaning higher artillery, technology), Genbu Crystal grants the power of Shield, Soryu Crystal grants the power of the Dragon. All nations are under a peace treaty called Pax Codex, and everything was going peacefully until Cid Aulsstyne broke the treaty and begins an invasion of the other nations with the help of the Byakko Crystal. Cid easily conquered Lorica and Concordia, but has difficulties obtaining Rubrum due to high magical defenses. This is where the students of Class Zero are organizing Operation Apostle, a covert mission to re-capture the crystals and defeat the Milites forces.

Class Zero

GAMEPLAY
9/10

The game-play mechanics are very similar to that of -Crisis Core- Final Fantasy VII. The battle system uses the new evolution of the "ATB kai' system, which was used in Final Fantasy X-2, which was later refined in -Crisis Core- Final Fantasy VII. Though unlike -Crisis Core-, the game-play is party based. Instead of going through menus, actions are mapped on the lower right screen, directly to the face buttons for quick access. SE stated that they wanted the fastest version of ATB ever created, which is true since actions are quickly into play and fast-pace. If you have a magic spell, and hold the button, you can charge the spell and you see a vertical bar going from left to right over the name. This game is literally created to keep you in action and on your toes. If you played the demo, and notice the games camera system was always going haywire, that problem is fix here in the full version, which is nice. Leveling up, and gaining Ability Points (AP) to increase the characters abilities is a recurring system in the game. You use the D-pad to move the camera.

Also, you have 14 playable characters. Yes, FOURTEEN playable characters. This is the biggest playable Final Fantasy cast along side with Final Fantasy VI, which also had 14 playable characters. Each are different and have unique game-play, and would make the game last for hours. For example, Jack uses a Katana and when the weapon is drawn, he suddenly becomes a slow-moving character, but takes the highest damage out of most of the characters. All of the characters are named after a deck of playing cards, excluding two, who are Machina Kunagiri and Rem Tokimiya. When you are on the World Map, you can also encounter random battles, and depending on what the weather condition is, it could effect your battle, such as fog, where it lowers your visibilities and to be able to lock onto enemies, you must look at your mini-map on the top-right screen to determine where your enemies are. Also, if you feel confident, you can face the same enemies again, but at a higher level for a challenge, which is a nice way to level up. Another feature using the World Map is a strategy battle type, where your in the World Map, and you have base to take over by entering into them or damaging them with soldiers you sent from your own base. This new feature is quite different to see in a Final Fantasy game, but it works out well.
Here are a couple of screen shots of the game-play.

Instant Death is a new addition to the Final Fantasy  series. If you are able to find a weakness of an enemy, a critical chance and based on how well your doing, a circle glyph appears on them, and if you hit them at that right moment, they are instantly killed. Some tougher enemies may take major damage from it, and bosses as well. Trust me, this helps out a lot, since the enemies are usually a higher level than you, and most of the characters take different damage. The boss even have like multiple bars of health. So this a nice and new feature to see.

A glyph appears, indicating a Instant Death.

The Alto Crystarium Menu
Also, like Final Fantasy XIII, the game also has a Crystarium system, called Alto Crystarium. This is where the player can power up the characters' magic, using energy collected from defeated enemies called "Phantoma". When an enemy is defeated, their dead bodies are still on screen. If the player holds the R button and press Triangle, they explode and form into a Phantoma, and goes towards the player. They restore a little bit of the characters' magic. The Phantoma comes in varies types, where they can be used to power up different areas of magic for the characters. An example, if I wanted to power up a character's Fire RF, the magic can be powered up in the strength of the magic, MP usage, distances and speed. This system is a nice and a new way to upgrade magic, but there is also a cost. When you upgrade say, the MP usage(how much MP is uses to cast the spell), another category such as Speed and Distance. You would have to carefully plan what you upgrade, as it does take awhile to get more Phantoma. Also, when you gather up Phantoma, you don't have to go to each and individual body and collect them. once you have one locked on and press triangle, they all form and go towards you, which is a nice change from the demo. The magic that is cast in the game is also different from any other Final Fantasy game.

In Type-0, you have three elements, which are Fire, Ice, and Lightning. The spells also have varies attack patterns and attributes if you know what your doing. There are five varieties in the game, they being:

Shotgun (SHG): This attack type is spread (like shooting a shotgun) at multiple height levels. It doesn't have the greatest distance in the game, since it's like a shotgun, but is VERY effective against enemies that are close. Duh, who would snipe with a shotgun?

Fire Shotgun

Rifle (RF): This attack type has very good distance. Though it may travel far, the homing isn't that great. If you have an enemy that is far and pretty stationary, this is the magic to use. This magic type takes moderate damage.

Ice Rifle

Bomb (BOM): This magic type is only effective in your immediate surroundings. This a HIGHLY useful magic if you are being mobbed and surrounded by a bunch of enemies. This magic type takes a nice amount of damage to the enemies. I use this magic a lot cause it looks cool, and I usually get up-close and personal.

Lightning Bomb

Missile (MIS): This attack type is meant for homing, and chases after your enemy before releasing it's magic. The higher the level of magic you have, such has Fira, Thunderga, it will expand to encompass surroundings.

Fira Missile

Rocket (ROK): This magic attack type is used if you want to precisely aim at a targeted. When used, you will go up close to your character where they are facing, and a cross-hair will appear. You can shoot at whatever you can see. I didn't really like this type, and I rarely use it, but in certain situations it can be useful.

Cross-hair appears.

Ice Missile

Like in Final Fantasy XII, you can switch leaders on the fly. By holding L and then pressing the Right D-pad button, you can change the character you are using to whoever you chose to be the other party members. If you lost a member, and want to replace the empty space with another, you can hold L and press up and scroll the characters you want to replace it with. Characters won't disappear forever, and will return at the end of the mission, or battle.
Shiva, the ice-elemental summon. (HOT)
Another feature added to the game is Trinity Attack system. It like a tri-attack combo. To uses these, you require 3 characters, and a mix of combination attacks. These are generally weaker than summons, which we will get to later on, but doesn't require a sacrifice (that's right... I said it... you need a sacrifice), and can be used multiple times.

Summons, a recurring feature in the Final Fantasy series, returns in Type-0. When summoned, the character who acts as the summoner is sacrifice, and cannot return until the mission is completed. The summon replaces the character and can be controlled as a member, similar to Final Fantasy XII International.

MUSIC
10/10

The music, composed by Takeharu Ishimoto, is very compelling and amazing. I just love every score and piece, and felt that I was in the moment of every point in the game. I enjoyed every moment of the game because of the music in the background, though this is just one opinion. There are variety of different scores in the game to provide the right feeling and momentum. Here is an example down below.

GRAPHICS
9/10

The graphics in the game are very amazing, especially on a hand-held platform. The graphics are very similar to The Third Birthday, and Dissidia Final Fantasy. The scenery is very nice, the details are great, the character details are amazing. The CG cut-scenes are also nice to see in-game. The World Map, which is a nice addition, has nice details that you can see. The lightning of the game and in battle are compelling to see and watch, especially if you use Thunder (SHG), and the effects of the magic are also nice.

OVERALL
9/10

Overall, the game was quite amazing. I love the Final Fantasy series, and this game made me enjoy it until the very end. You get an amazing large variety of characters, very interesting characters in fact, a face-pace game-play that will keep you hooked and on your toes, great music and graphics. If you are a fan of the series and you enjoy fast-pace RPGs, I would recommend you pick up a copy, IF the game ever get's localized or if you want to and speaks Japanese, you can pick up the JAP version of the game. I enjoyed the game a lot, and I hope this review gave you a couple of thoughts about it.

*Note: I do not know when the release date for Final Fantasy Type-0 in North America will be announce, and I hope that it does get localized, as it will be a great game. SE stated that they wanted to appeal to Western gamers with this game, so I hope to see it here.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Discussions, Thoughts, Topics

FINAL FANTASY XIII-2

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is an upcoming 2012 console role-playing game from the Final Fantasy series created by Square Enix. It is the successor of the Platinum Hit Final Fantasy XIII. Three years after the events. Three years after the events of Final Fantasy XIII, Lightning, the protagonist of the original game, has disappeared into an unknown world. Her younger sister Serah Farron, a returning character from the original title, and a boy named Noel Kreiss attempt to find Lightning. The game is due to release in Japan on December 15th, and on January 31st in North America.

                                         Serah Farron                                                                    Noel Kreiss
Side note: If you have a save file of Final Fantasy XIII, you will get something that is barely a bonus. Details are down further.

FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 GAMEPLAY
Square Enix as stated that Final Fantasy XIII-2 has changed every aspect of the game from Final Fantasy XIII. Active Time Battle (ATB) returns in Final Fantasy XIII-2. A bar charges, while a character picks commands on the character he/she is using and a small block of the command appears on top of the ATB Bar. Once filled, whatever command imputed are played into action. Press Y or Triangle to use the command early if the block is lighted up, or press B or Circle to cancel a command. A new feature added during battle is called Quick Time Events also called "Cinematic Action", which allows that player to deal an incredible amount of damage and a upper hand in battles.

Addition to the combat, Mog Clock is another feature in the game. Instead of monster appearing the screen and roaming around like in Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy XIII. They now appear randomly. Just as the monsters appear on screen, a dial clock called "Mog Clock" appears in the middle of the bottom half of the screen and a red ring surrounds the player's character with a radius of about 3 or so meters. The Mog Clock feature grants the player various bonuses and/or penalites depending on the time it takes them to enter a battle.

Another features that were added was Live Trigger, Temporal Rift and the Historia Crux System. Live Trigger happens throughout the process of the game, where the player will have to pick dialogue from a dialogue tree that will affect what the character says to NPC. Yoshinori Kitase stated that there will be multiple endings, but won't be affected by Live Trigger. Square has also said that the dialogue will allow for more enjoying conversation between characters during cutscenes or NPC chats. The dialogue will also change every time the game is played.
Temporal Rifts is a series of puzzle that occur when walking through dimensions and once completed through, they will be able to resolve a paradox happening in the real world.

Historia Crux System, is a time-travelling machine that allows player to jump through various gates throughout XIII-2. This system also plays towards the multiple endings. This allows for non-linear gameplay as the playeer could go forth and back through time, allowing them to turn back time in order to explore different plot possibilities in each location.

Setting

The worlds of Gran Pulse and Cocoon in Final Fantasy XIII return in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Players will be able to revisit old areas that have changed in appearance like Lake Bresha, now called the Bresha Ruins. A re-created version of the city of Bodhum had been made on Pulse, known as New Bodhum. Many of the civilians from Bodhum now live here. The Yaschas Massif on Pulse reappears with its ruins now inhabited by Cocoon soldiers and scientists like the Bresha Ruins. Valhalla, otherwise known as "the invisible world" will also be a playable area. Serendipity is a floating casino city packed with minigames like Slots and Chocobo racing. The city of Academia replaces Eden as the new capital of Cocoon and is Hope's new hometown.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XIII)

Characters
In Final Fantasy XIII-2, a new cast of characters are playing as the lead with a some of the original cast of Final Fantasy XIII returning as a cameo/playable characters. Certain original characters have been announce so far.

Serah Farron
Age: 18
Gender: Female
The younger sister of Lightning. Story wise, she is one the search for her sister Lightning after a sudden disappearance after the fall of Cocoon. A year later, in the events of Final Fantasy XIII-2, Serah is a teacher in the willage of New Bodhum. However, when Ne Bodhum is invaded by monsters, she is saved by Noel, a man from the future and a Moogle that morphs into a shape-shifting bow/sword for Serah, which is very interesting if you ask me. I mean, who wouldn't want that for Christmas? I would...

Noel Kreiss
Age: Unknown
Gender: Possibly Unknown as well... nah I joke. Male
A mysterious man from the future, sent back in time to change the course of history. After saving Serah from an attack of invading monster, he and Serah team up to find her lost sister, Lightning, where he supposedly know where she is. He wields dual blades, with a similar fighting style of Fang. This is a nice touch because I rarely see dual wielding characters in Final Fantasy other then Ninjas in FFT. Other FF that does, please let me know.

Hope Estheim

Age: 24
Gender: Male
A returning character form Final Fantasy XIII, who I LOVE FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, is the leader of the Academy, a research group looking to redevelop Gran Pulse. He is specifically studying space-time anomalies. He still carries his giant boomerang, but only as a memento since he doesn't fight anymore. Which I CRIED after hearing this. I can't believe I won't be able to use my hot character to cast his sexy spells anymore! Though I do not know if that is true, and you can still use him(which I HOPE I do...). Look at him... he is so BADASS! (T_T)

EDIT: He is a NPC! (T_T)

Snow Villiers

Age: 24 in Final Fantasy XIII-2 (I know right... weird... freaking Time screw age over)
Gender: Male
Fiance to Serah Farron and a step-sister to Lightning. Snow is the leader and founder of NORA, group that fought off wild animals and then eventually a rebel group against the Sanctum. He has a 'Heroic" personality, where he always calls himself, "The Hero". Other characters in the game believe that he is "all talk" since he usually talk and act before he thinks. Hope in the original game despises him, but later eventually grew on him. I never liked him in the original game cause of his personality. It tick the crap out of me. Though he does look cool now, I just don't know if I will like him.

Sazh Katzroy
Age: Not Known
Gneder: Male
He is also a NPC, (WHICH SUCKS... we just lost another black playable character in the series...) and heling with the rebuild of Gran Pulse.

Caius

Age: Unknown
Gender: Male
Details about him are here.

Other Characters
NORA - The rebel group, now helping with Gran Pulse.
Alyssa Zaidelle - Hope's assistant. (HOPE YOU ARE ON A ROLE BABY)
Mog - Serah's weapon that is also used to find hidden treasures when thrown.
